Thailand extends tourism stimulus measures to attract foreign visitors

Political issues in Thailand had a great impact in it’s tourism industry. Last year, visitors to Thailand were down by eight per cent and tourism revenue also drop drastically. With the ongoing ‘red shirts’ vs Government/Army, Thailand decides to extend the tourism stimulus measures. Key details of the stimulus for tourists:

  • Visa fee exemption for foreign tourists
  • Reduced aircraft landing and parking fees  – Will tourist benefit from this? Will depends if airline decided to pass down the savings to consumers.
  • Providing free-of-charge riot protection insurance worth US$10,000 for each foreign tourist

The stimulus will start from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011. Mr  Thailand, to attract more tourist, how about throwing in 1 free hotel room night for every night booked?

Thailand is still a very safe place to visit now. Don’t worry about the political unrest. Just be reminded not to wear red or blue shirts when you visit Thailand.
